Submitting a Project

UROP students engage in research early by assisting our faculty in their research endeavors, not by conducting original research in a student-developed project.  A good UROP project will be defined enough to attract students’ interest, but open-ended enough to allow the project to grow with the research team, so there is no need for an explicitly detailed project submission.

Your project should allow a student to contribute effectively to your research and also encourage the student to learn from the experience.  Ideally, UROP students’ involvement and contributions will grow in level of responsibility and difficulty as they grow into the project, yielding young researchers that will be well-equipped to participate in the university’s academic culture and possibly to assist you in your future work.

Please submit your UROP project as soon as possible.  We will begin selecting students for participation in UROP before the end of the Spring 2013 semester, and while we will accept project submissions all through the summer, early submission of your project gives our staff and UROP Leaders time to adequately familiarize themselves with your project.  UROP students will be given faculty project listings in the beginning of the Fall semester, and with the help of their UROP Leader will select projects to apply to.  Research Sponsors will then conduct interviews to select the student(s) they will hire.  Please see the “Sponsor Role” page for details on working with your UROP assistants.
