Awards and Scholarships


The following awards and scholarships are available each year for FSU undergraduates to support research activities. Application deadlines are noted. Further information is available from the Office of Undergraduate Research.

Disasters and Community Research Fellowship (DCRF)
The FSU Office of Undergraduate Research, with funding from the Emergency Management & Homeland Security program at FSU, is excited to announce a new award for FSU students. The Disasters and Community Research Fellowship (DCRF) offers funding to graduate and undergraduate students to engage in research or creative endeavors addressing risks and disasters facing communities, in a domestic or international setting.
The DCRF program was created to empower students to use research or creative endeavors to shed light on disaster challenges facing communities. The program also serves to create research relationships between FSU students and communities. The outcome of the DCRF is a research presentation that specifically explores unique aspects of disasters and communities.
Students may apply as individuals or groups. Individual applicants will receive up to a $3,000 stipend and groups will receive up to a $5,000 stipend to carry out their proposed research for eight to twelve weeks under the direction of a supervising professor. Funds may be used for living expenses, materials, and/or travel.

Social Work Undergraduate Research & Creative Activity Awards (SWURCAA)
PURPOSE: The College of Social Work at Florida State University’s Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Awards foster directed research and creative opportunities for undergraduate students in the field of social work at FSU.
AWARD DESCRIPTION: Selected applicants will receive a summer stipend of up to $4000 to carry out their proposed research or creative project for twelve weeks under the direction of a supervising professor. Funds may be used for living expenses, materials, and/or travel.

Public Service Research Fellowship (PSRF)
The FSU Office of Undergraduate Research, with funding from the ACC and the Garnet and Gold Scholars Society, is excited to announce a new award for FSU undergraduates. The Public Service Research Fellowship (PSRF) offers undergraduates fellowships to engage in research that directly benefits community-based organizations, programs, and/or specific community groups in a domestic or international setting.
Students may apply as individuals or groups. Individual applicants will receive up to a $3,000 stipend and groups will receive up to a $5,000 stipend to carry out to their proposed research for eight to twelve weeks under the direction of a supervising professor. Funds may be used for living expenses, materials, and/or travel

Mentored Research and Creative Endeavors Awards (MRCE)
Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research, this award provides up to $1000 for student support while conducting mentored research or creative endeavors in the summer or fall.

Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Awards (URCAA)
Sponsored by the Office of National Fellowships and the Office of Undergraduate Research, this $4000 award supports students conducting summer research or creative activity under the direction of a supervising faculty mentor. Recipients of the award are required to present their findings at a symposium held in the fall semester following their summer of research. (http://onf.fsu.edu/)

Meeting of the Minds Research Conference Travel Awards
Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research, this award covers all conference costs for students presenting their research at the annual Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) undergraduate research conference, “Meeting of the Minds,” to be held this year at Wake Forest University from April 4-6, 2013.

Florida Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation
Through a grant from the National Science Foundation, this program (coordinated with FAMU) involves monthly meetings and events for minority students in the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics). The program aims to support students' efforts broadly in college with a focus on undergraduate research and graduate school applications. Through their participation, students are eligible for up to a $1000 stipend.

Honors Thesis Awards
The Honors Office offers awards of up to $1,000 to support research or creative activity leading to an Honors Thesis for students who are in the Honors in the Major Program. The awards provide for travel funds to perform the research or for expense items or small equipment items directly related to the thesis research or creative project. Applications are available in the Honors in the Major Blackboard organization (campus.fsu.edu).

Phi Eta Sigma Mentored Research and Creative Endeavor Award (PES-MRCE)
Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research and Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society, this award provides up to $1000 to support a Phi Eta Sigma member conducting mentored research or creative endeavors in the summer or fall. The application for this award is the same as the general application for the MRCE award above. There is a space to designate your Phi Eta Sigma member status on the general MRCE application.
